SPECTACULAR SCHOOLS' DEBUT

More thank 1400 schoolchildren will celebrate the chance of a lifetime when they perform on stage at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on September 20.

The first Schools Variety Spectacular presents a unique opportunity for many talented and creative children from throughout New South Wales to perform before a capacity audience on the same stage which has already featured such international talents as Elton John, Torvill and Dean and Boy George.

Excitement is building as intensive rehearsals put the final polish on this big night of stars.

One of Australia's best-known performers and international entertainers, Mr Rolf Harris, will add that final professional touch to a show that has schools throughout the State bussing. Tickets bookings are flooding in.

The Entertainment Centre has seen many spectacular shows, but for the first time the children of New South Wales schools will be able to demonstrate their diverse talents to a wide audience.

Rolf Harris will compere the show as well as perform his most well-known numbers with the children.

Rolf has a great affinity with children and will create his own kind of magic with old favourites "Two Little Boys", "Tie Me Kangaroo Down" and "Jake The Peg".

His inclusion in the program has inspired the young performers to be at their peak. Organisers of the showcase believe it will be the first time in the world that a variety show, with such a giant cast, a wide range of talents, led by a world-reowned entertainer, has been assembled.

A broad spectrum of musical styles will included the full symphony orchestra from the Conservatorium of Music, a chamber ensemble, an all-girl rock band and a bush band.

A lively array of tumblers, jugglers, acrobats and classical, ballroom and modern dancers will ensure there is never a dull moment.

Songs will be performed by a 600-voice combined right down to a boy soprano soloist.

Split-second timing and professional staging will ensure the success of the night.

Theatre professionals are handling the stage planning, lighting and sound.

Tickets for this night of nights, where all parents, relatives and children are welcome to attend, will be readily available through Mitchells Bass outlets.

Organiser believe this concert will go a long way in promoting the abilities of children taught in the State school system and that the public's awareness of the opportunities that the system provides will be greatly enhanced.
