Johnny

Pop singer Johnny Farnham (of "Sadie, the cleaning lady" fame) will open the Farrar School for Deaf P. and C. Association fete in Croydon Avenue, near George's River Road, Croydon Park, at 12.20 p.m. on Saturday, October 2.

It is the first fete planned by supporters of the school for deaf children, which at present has 46 pupils, aged from three to 16 years.

The parents and citizens deserve a helping hand to stock stalls with tempting, budget-prized goods.

Also your patronage.

They have already raised $2,000 towards a tennis courts, which will be subsidised by the N.S.W. Education Department.

At the fete, youngster will be able to buy rides on Shetland ponies and will find a variety of amusements.

Brochures with lucky numbers, a cake stall, and handcrafts will be other features.

Donations of goods, toys, etc., suitable for stall, will be welcomed at the school by fete workers, Mrs G. Arena and Mrs. P. Stevenson.

And, of course, Johnny Farnham has promised to sing, and the sign autographs after opening the fete.

5 boys learn fast at tech school

Deaf students who attended a spray paint course at Granville Technical Collage last week proudly polished the car they re-sprayed themselves. Seen here (from left) are Jimmy Hartshorne, tech tacher Barry Smith, teacher of the deaf, Sue Maddock, and students Dean Hanagan, Brendan McNamara, Darren Hartley and Stephen Baker.

FIVE deaf boys who finished a spray paint course at Granville Technical Collage last week are proving the benefits of the Link work experience project.

The boys, who came from schools for the deaf in the Parramatta area, resprayed a car after only a two-week course.

They have impressed teachers with their professional job and enthusiasm for the work.

One of the teachers, Mr B. Smith, said the standard of work was equal to and possibly better than many of the full-time trade students with 12 months' experience.

Jimmy Hartshore, 15 of Haberfield, Dean Hanagan, 16, of Revesby, Brendan McNamara, 14, of Ryde, Darren Hartley, 15, of Five Dock, are students of Farrar School for the Deaf at Croydon Park.

Stephen Baker, 15, of Northmead attends Arthur Phillip High School.

Under the Link program deaf students are being integrated into technical college courses for short team work experience.

The Spray painted group has also sampled painting and decorating and carpentry and joinery courses.

In the two years before they leave school they will have tried 12 trades.
